Preview image in folder lists
Choose which image Browse Folder shows as the thumbnail for documents of your schema: in the list, in the grid and in search results.
Default: the first image field that has an image
You do not need a setting. Docly looks at the image fields in the form, in the order they appear (elements with data-img), and uses the first one that holds an image in that document. A news article shows its main image; an article without one shows the schema icon.
The choice is made per document, so two documents of the same schema can use different fields. Only fields at the top level of the document are read: an image field inside a repeating list (data array) is not used.
An image field that is empty, points to a deleted file, or holds a file type that cannot be rendered is skipped, and the next image field is tried.
Choosing the field and the framing
Open the schema and go to the Settings tab. Both settings are stored in the schema document.
Setting | Meaning |
|---|---|
Preview image in folder lists ( | Empty: automatic, as described above. A field name: always that field. |
Preview framing ( | Empty (Fill): fills the tile and crops from the center, best for photos. |
Documents that are a file
A document that is a file, such as Uploaded Image and Uploaded File, shows the file itself when its type can be rendered: jpg, jpeg, png, svg, gif, ico, webp, avif, heic, heif, bmp, tif, tiff and pdf. A PDF is shown whole by default, so the letterhead and title stay visible; other files fill the tile. Preview framing in the schema overrides both.
If the file cannot be rendered (a .docx, for example), the automatic choice moves on to the schema's other image fields.
