Document AI Assistant Last updated: 13. Jun 2026
An inline AI panel inside the document editor. It focuses on the one document you have open — perfect for quick edits, rewrites and running reports without leaving the page.
Opening the assistant
Open a document in the editor.
Click the AI AGENT ribbon button.
The panel opens with the prompt: "Let me help with changes. What do you need?"
Two ways to start
Option | When to use it |
|---|---|
Predefined prompt / report ("What would you like to do?") | Pick a ready-made action configured for this document type — a standard report or common edit. If none are configured you'll see "No reports are available". |
Free-text request ("Or enter your request") | Describe the change in your own words, e.g. "Translate the summary to Norwegian". |
Working with changes
The panel has two tabs:
Chat — your conversation with the assistant. Send follow-up messages to refine the result.
Preview — a preview of the proposed changes before they are applied.
When you're happy:
Accept — applies the proposed changes to the document.
↺ Reset — discards all changes and restores the original content.
↻ Retry — asks the AI to try again.
Save as copy… — saves the modified version as a new document, leaving the original untouched.
Note: nothing is saved until you accept. Reviewing the Preview is your safeguard — the AI can make mistakes.
Long tasks: if the assistant hits its step limit it pauses and shows a ▶ Continue button — click it to keep it working from where it stopped.
Conversations & sessions
+ New — start a fresh conversation (current chat is cleared).
Restore session — if a previous session is found, you'll be offered to restore it.
File changed warning — if the document changed since a saved session, earlier pending changes are discarded to avoid conflicts.
Attachments & model
Add attachment — provide extra files as context for your request.
Select AI Model — choose which model handles the request (see the Introduction for guidance).
Reports
Some predefined actions are reports rather than direct edits. When you run one:
It is generated in the background and sent to you by email.
You can also open the running process to watch progress and see debug output.
When to switch to the Workspace Agent
The Document AI Assistant is deliberately scoped to a single document. If your task needs to touch other files — create new pages, rename files, edit several documents — click 🚀 Workspace Agent to open the full Workspace Agent.
